Motivating Employees Is Not About Carrots or Sticks
Leaders often rely on the carrot vs. the stick approach to motivate employees, where the carrot is a reward for compliance and the stick is a consequence for non-compliance. But this is an outdated approach that never really works well. Motivation is less about employees doing great work and more about employees feeling great about their work. There is no stronger motivation for employees than an understanding that their work matters, and is relevant to someone or something other than a financial statement. To motivate your employees, start by sharing context about the work you’re asking them to do. Recognise that challenges can materially impact motivation. Be proactive in identifying and addressing them. What might make an employee’s work difficult or cumbersome? What can you do to ease the burden? And remember that if you’re not engaged and enthusiastic about the work you do, it’s unlikely that your team will be. So, check in with yourself about how motivated you are for the job at hand, because employees feel more motivated when their leaders are also motivated.

Workforce Survey Invitation
Working collaboratively Clark, Maynooth University, County Kildare Chamber and Grant Thornton have come together to gather information on the world of work including talent resourcing, skills, work arrangements and future trends for business.
To shed light on how the world of work and talent resourcing is changing, we have designed a survey specifically focusing on the M7 corridor and surrounding areas. We would really value your view, input and experience.
This year, we have added to the survey a section on remote work arrangements. As organisations gain prolonged experience of remote working, extending these arrangements seems increasingly feasible. We often hear how organisations are re-considering earlier plans to return to the office but seek additional data to better understand their options. Therefore, this year we hope to provide you with a detailed overview of remote work arrangements, supports in place for remote work and how this impacts line managers and employees. We still have so much to learn about remote work and learning together is an essential step in helping our organisations make informed, successful decisions. Please be assured again that the survey is confidential. We recognise that adding this section lengthens the survey, however, we are very keen to learn more about your experience of remote work so that we can understand and share collective experiences across our community. We hope that shared awareness of the value of accessing timely and relevant trends relating to remote work will encourage full responses and we ask that you please complete the survey in full by Monday 31st January 2022.
Confidentiality and ethics: Please be assured that your individual response will always be anonymous. This survey adheres to the highest research ethics standards and complies with all GDPR requirements.
What will happen to the results? On completion of the research, the data will be retained on the Survey Monkey server and aggregated and anonymised research results will be made available to you on request and via our website www.clark.ie.

Clark Salary Guide 2022
Clark are pleased to present our annual salary guide for 2022.
The purpose of this guide is to provide you with detailed, accurate information about salary levels across Ireland with specific emphasis on the M7 corridor. We believe it will be a useful go-to tool for both employers and employees for planning purposes in 2022.
Our guide gives information across specific job sectors including Human Resources, Accountancy, Sales, Marketing, Business Support, Environmental Health & Safety, Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics and IT and includes salary information for over 209 roles.
It has been compiled using the salary details provided to us by over 5000 candidates who have registered with us during the past 12 months, an in-depth review of salary levels across 500 vacancies in our region in the 2nd half of 2021 and the analysis of salary guides provided by national and international specialists in the recruitment sector for the year ahead.
What is evident is that salary rates are on the increase. Candidates and representative bodies are calling for salary increases at a minimum of 2 – 4%. In reality, we are seeing increases in certain sectors in excess of this.
A worldwide talent shortage, the change in the landscape of how we work as a result of the covid pandemic and the increase in the cost of living is driving salary expectations upwards.
Employers are fighting hard to attract and retain good people in a candidate market which is very aware of its worth. Ultimately, salary levels play a big part in this.
If you would like further information or we can help you regarding the information provided in this survey, please contact deirdre@clark.ie or a member of our team on 045 881888. We’d be delighted to help you.
