Temporary Payroll Officer
Location: Carlow
Contract: Temporary, October 2026 to mid-February 2027
Salary: €31,922 per annum
Working Arrangement: Hybrid available following initial training, with 3 days per week on-site.
We are currently recruiting for a Temporary Payroll Officer to join the payroll team of a large public-sector organisation based in Carlow. This is a busy role supporting the processing of monthly payroll for a large workforce and pensioner population.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process high-volume monthly payroll accurately and within strict deadlines.
- Process and review payroll changes received from HR.
- Administer PAYE Modernisation requirements, including Revenue Payroll Notifications (RPNs).
- Process PAYE, PRSI, USC, ASC, pension and other approved deductions.
- Assist with pension auto-enrolment and related payroll administration.
- Respond to employee and pensioner payroll queries and resolve routine issues.
- Reconcile payroll reports and carry out accuracy checks before payroll is processed.
- Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records.
- Ensure payroll activities comply with relevant legislation, regulations and procedures.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Previous experience working in a busy payroll environment.
- Good knowledge of payroll processes, PAYE and PRSI.
- Experience of high-volume payroll processing.
- Strong numerical and organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Good working knowledge of MS Excel, Word and Outlook.
- A high level of confidentiality and an understanding of data protection.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work to strict deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and a professional approach to dealing with queries.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a team.
- A payroll qualification such as IPASS would be an advantage but is not essential.
