HR Specialist

This role sits within the Employee Relations & Staff Engagement Unit and offers a unique opportunity to play a central part in managing complex HR casework, supporting employee wellbeing, driving policy updates, and shaping access and disability inclusion initiatives.
Work will span employee relations, policy development, occupational health coordination, and employee support services, making this a varied and impactful role.
Key Responsibilities:
Case Management
• Support and lead sensitive HR casework – grievances, investigations, disciplinaries, protected disclosures
• Drive monthly case review meetings, manage the case register, and support Occupational Health referrals
• Guide best practice across case documentation, GDPR compliance, and long-term sick leave reviews
• Advise on internal processes including disciplinary stages and case progression
HR Policy & Compliance
• Own and update the Staff Handbook in line with current legislation and circulars
• Draft, review, and consult on new HR policies
• Liaise with internal stakeholders and ensure timely HR notifications and policy rollouts
Access & Disability
• Act as Disability Officer and provide support on access and reasonable accommodations
• Coordinate annual returns and staff census reporting
• Lead awareness and accessibility initiatives organisation-wide
Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
• Manage the EAP and provide guidance to staff and managers
• Liaise with the provider and review programme usage and impact
General HR Support
• Provide expert advice on ER and staff engagement matters
• Prepare reports and contribute to staff engagement strategies
• Support third-party hearing preparations when required
• Ensure alignment with health & safety, GDPR, and organisational quality standards
Ideal Candidate
• Proven experience in HR, ideally in employee relations, case management, or compliance
• Comfortable handling sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
• Strong knowledge of employment legislation, policy writing, and accessibility matters
• Excellent interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills
• Ability to stay calm under pressure, support staff with empathy, and deliver best practice HR
