The Opportunity

Clark Recruitment is working with a leading logistics and transport organisation to recruit an experienced Transport Planner to join its planning team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an organised and commercially aware transport professional to take responsibility for the daily planning and coordination of transport operations.

The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring the efficient allocation of drivers, vehicles and equipment, monitoring live operations and responding to changing customer and operational requirements.

The position can be based at either the company’s operation in Fermoy, Co. Cork, or Dublin, depending on the successful candidate’s location.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and coordinate daily transport operations, ensuring the effective allocation of drivers, vehicles, trailers and equipment.
Create, review and execute daily transport plans to maximise efficiency and minimise unnecessary mileage and operational costs.
Monitor live transport operations and respond to changes, delays or unexpected operational requirements.
Communicate daily instructions and updates clearly to drivers and relevant operational teams.
Monitor driver working hours and assist with planning balanced working schedules across the fleet.
Work closely with the Planning Manager and wider operations team to achieve agreed performance targets and KPIs.
Coordinate driver availability and provide input into annual leave planning to ensure adequate operational cover.
Liaise with drivers, operational staff and scheduling coordinators to ensure effective resource allocation and customer service.
Ensure accurate and timely updates across transport planning and operational control systems.
Coordinate vehicle and trailer maintenance schedules, ensuring planned maintenance is completed in line with requirements.
Investigate and escalate transport planning, operational and health and safety issues where required.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve planning processes, operational efficiency and service delivery.
Maintain clear communication with customers and internal stakeholders, ensuring operational issues are recorded and managed appropriately.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will ideally have:

A minimum of two years’ experience in a transport planning or logistics planning position.
A qualification in Transport, Logistics or Supply Chain would be beneficial, although relevant industry experience will also be considered.
Good knowledge of transport operations, vehicle routing and driver scheduling.
Experience coordinating drivers, vehicles and transport resources.
Strong organisational and time management skills.
The ability to work under pressure and manage changing operational priorities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Good IT skills and experience using transport planning or operational control systems.
A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
The ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a wider planning team.

Working Arrangements

Permanent, full-time position.
Monday to Friday working week.
Fully on-site role.
Based in either Fermoy, Co. Cork, or Dublin.

The role requires some flexibility to support operational requirements, which may include early or late shifts, occasional rostered weekend cover and out-of-hours support when required.

Salary & Benefits

Salary of €45,000 – €48,000 per annum, depending on experience.
Permanent employment.
Monday to Friday working pattern.
