Buyer

We are hiring on behalf of our client, based in Co. Kildare, for an organised and commercially minded Buyer to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing materials, products and services, ensuring they are delivered on time, to specification and at the best overall value. Working closely with internal teams and suppliers, you will play an important role in supporting project delivery, maintaining supply and protecting margins.

Key Responsibilities

  • Raise and manage purchase orders in line with project schedules and requirements.
  • Source, obtain and compare supplier quotations, negotiating competitive pricing, terms and lead times.
  • Monitor orders and expedite deliveries, proactively addressing delays or supply issues.
  • Coordinate deliveries to site and company facilities.
  • Build strong relationships with existing suppliers and develop new sources of supply.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and resolve delivery, invoice and supplier discrepancies.
  • Track material costs and identify variances.
  • Ensure products and suppliers meet required quality, certification and technical standards.
  • Manage returns, shortages, damages and supplier credits.
  • Monitor market trends and material pricing to support purchasing decisions.
  • Support stock control, stock takes and inventory management.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and supplier performance reviews.

Skills & Experience

  • 2–3 years’ experience in purchasing, buying or procurement, ideally within construction or manufacturing.
  • Strong negotiation and commercial skills.
  • Ability to interpret specifications and material schedules.
  • Excellent organisation and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Confident communication skills with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Good IT skills, including Excel and purchasing/ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, certification and relevant standards is desirable.
  • Experience with UK/EU imports, freight and customs would be advantageous.
  • Third-level qualification in procurement, supply chain, business or construction desirable.
  • Full, clean driving licence.
