Financial Controller

About the Opportunity

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing organisation operating across multiple European markets. The business is a leading provider of specialist equipment, consumables, and technical support services, with a strong presence across healthcare and related sectors.

Due to continued growth and expansion, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Financial Controller to join the finance leadership team. This role will take ownership of financial control, management reporting, statutory compliance, and commercial finance activities across several international entities, while supporting ongoing business growth, acquisitions, and process improvements. 

The Role

The Financial Controller will work closely with the CFO and wider finance team to strengthen reporting processes, improve financial controls, support strategic decision-making, and provide robust financial insight to senior stakeholders.

The successful candidate will oversee financial reporting for multiple entities across Ireland, the UK, Austria, and Switzerland.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Control

  • Prepare monthly management accounts within strict month-end deadlines.
  • Deliver commercial reporting and performance analysis for senior management.
  • Maintain tax reporting processes and prepare supporting calculations for statutory returns.
  • Lead annual audit processes and manage relationships with auditors, tax advisors, and professional service providers.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements. 

Technical Accounting

  • Manage complex accounting areas including:
    • Deferred revenue and income recognition.
    • Equipment sales margin reporting.
    • Inventory accounting across capital equipment, parts, and consumables.
  • Take full ownership of balance sheet accounting, including:
    • Accruals and prepayments.
    • Inventory reconciliations.
    • Acquisition accounting.
    • Consolidation accounting.

Commercial Finance

  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities across the group.
  • Develop and maintain integrated balance sheet, profit & loss, and cashflow models.
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support commercial decision-making.
  • Assist in cashflow, profitability, and capital management initiatives. 

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Work with ERP and accounting systems to enhance reporting capabilities and streamline financial processes.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within finance systems, including SAP Business One environments.
  • Drive efficiency, simplification, and standardisation of finance processes. 

Acquisitions & Growth

  • Support acquisition activity, including financial due diligence and onboarding.
  • Assist with post-acquisition integration and completion accounts.
  • Develop reporting structures and management accounts processes for newly acquired entities.
  • Contribute to the continued development of the finance function in line with the organisation’s ambitious growth strategy. 

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Mentor and support junior finance team members.
  • Participate in group-wide finance initiatives, including intercompany accounting and reporting.
  • Build strong working relationships with stakeholders across the business.
  • Act as a key partner to operational and commercial teams. 

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent).
  • Minimum 5 years’ post-qualification accounting and finance experience.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and control frameworks.
  • Experience preparing statutory financial statements.
  • Proven experience managing month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Strong systems knowledge, including accounting and ERP platforms. 

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent analytical and numerical ability with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong financial modelling capability.
  • Experience working with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively, and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Commercially minded with a proactive, hands-on approach.
  • Strong problem-solving and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Fluent English, both written and spoken.
