Financial Controller

My client is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Financial Controller to oversee all financial and accounting functions while ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks. This is a key leadership role within the organisation, requiring a strong balance of financial acumen, compliance expertise, and operational excellence. The successful candidate will play a pivotal part in shaping financial strategy, strengthening internal controls, and supporting the client’s continued growth through sound governance and data protection practices.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Accounting:

  • Oversee daily financial operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll oversight, and month-end/year-end close.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial statements in line with IFRS/GAAP and statutory requirements.
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support strategic business objectives.
  • Lead internal and external audits, liaising with auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting systems, and financial procedures.
  • Ensure internal processes are aligned with the NIS2 Directive, supporting cybersecurity and operational resilience.
  • Advise senior leadership on financial strategy, cash flow optimisation, and risk mitigation.
  • Prepare detailed financial reports and insights for the Board and key stakeholders.
  • Support risk management frameworks to ensure strong financial governance and documentation.
  • Collaborate with the Data Controller to ensure financial data handling complies with GDPR and other data protection regulations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (Master’s or professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA, or CPA preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a financial controlling or senior accounting role.
  • Proven experience working within compliance frameworks (GDPR, NIS2).
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS/GAAP and regulatory reporting standards.
  • Experience supporting tender processes and procurement functions.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in financial software (Sage 50 and Microsoft Office Suite) with advanced Excel skills.
  • Highly organised, proactive, and capable of managing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Analytical mindset with a focus on process improvement and operational excellence.
