Accounts Assistant with Payroll

We are seeking a detail-oriented Assistant Accountant with a strong emphasis on Payroll Management to join our finance team in Co. Kildare. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the accurate and timely processing of weekly payroll for the Group, while supporting the Group Financial Controller in maintaining compliance and financial controls.
This is a full-time, office-based role, reporting directly to the Group Financial Controller.

Key Responsibilities
Payroll Management (Primary Function)

  • Prepare and process weekly payroll for all Group employees using a manual timesheet system.
  • Ensure all statutory and voluntary deductions are correctly applied, including PAYE, PRSI, USC, pension contributions, and other benefits.
  • Reconcile payroll reports to nominal ledger balances.
  • Maintain up-to-date employee compliance records, including contracts and payroll documentation.
  • Lead the transition from manual to automated time and attendance systems.
  • Ensure full compliance with payroll legislation and Revenue Commissioners’ requirements.
  • Prepare and submit PAYE and other payroll-related returns.

Finance Support Duties

  • Post daily bank transactions and perform bank reconciliations.
  • Maintain and reconcile the Fixed Asset Register, including monthly depreciation and asset verification.
  • Assist with annual and interim audits by providing payroll and finance documentation.
  • Process and pay employee expenses.
  • Manage and reconcile Group credit cards.
  • Set up and amend supplier details in Sage, including bank information.
  • Prepare and process supplier payments as required.
  • Prepare and submit tax returns (VAT, VIES, Intrastat, PAYE).
  • Complete CSO returns as needed.
  • Undertake ad hoc projects as directed by the Group Financial Controller.

Candidate Requirements

  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience in a finance role within a commercial environment.
  • Accounting Technician (or equivalent) working in a similar role.
  • Proven experience in payroll processing and understanding of accounting procedures.
  • Familiarity with automated Time and Attendance systems is a strong advantage.
  • Proficient in MS Excel and financial systems; Sage 50 experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence in dealing with senior stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
