Clark are recruiting for a Qualified Accountant for a contract role located in Carlow. This is a fantastic opportunity to join one of Irelands leading 3rd Level Educational Institutes.

This is a key role within the Institute. The role will provide a professional and comprehensive role in the delivery of the objectives of the department across the wide range of activities within the Finance function.

Duties Include:

  • To ensure the integrity, accuracy and timeliness of all reporting data, internal and external, financial and management. To contribute to the development and maintenance of data integrity and internal reporting.
  • To prepare the Financial Statements of the Institute and all its subsidiaries, working with the Finance team to ensure delivered within the set timescales and to the highest standard.
  • Liaising with internal and external auditors and the implementation of Audit Recommendations
  • To support the preparation and finalisation of the annual Institute budget, including the payroll budget and supporting assumptions.
  • To support the monitoring and reporting of performance against budgets to internal institute management and senior management, including variance analysis and query resolution.
  • To support the preparation of financial and other submissions as may be required from time to time by the Institute, Higher Education Authority, Department of Further and higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Auditors and other appropriate bodies/organisations.
  • To prepare the monthly management report packs for senior management and Governing Body and ad hoc reports as required, liaising with the wider Finance team as required.
  • To support the production of the HEA Unit Costing Returns and related returns. Liaising with the relevant departments of the Institute to secure all input data and validate all such data.
  • To support the development of internal reporting systems and reports to facilitate management overview of the operations all activities across the Institute however funded.
  • Supporting the operation of the Fixed Asset System, including ledger maintenance and 
  • reporting as well as contributing to the development of processes and controls.
  • To assist in the control and authorisation of all functional operations across the department to include payroll, debtors, banking, supplier payments and purchases and maintain all necessary records.
  • To ensure the accuracy, completion and submission of all revenue returns for the Institute and its subsidiaries, across all activities.
  • Manage and report on the day to day cash management requirements of the Institute, ensuring the Institute’s funds are maintained in appropriate financial structures to maximise the potential return, minimise the potential costs and ensure that funds are available to meet the working capital requirements on an ongoing basis.
  • To contribute to the development and enhancement of Institute’s overall financial control environment focusing on internal controls. To monitor and report on internal controls compliance on a timely basis.
  • To support the supervise staff, as required, in the Finance Department and participate in and support staff development and training programmes.
  • To undertake such other related duties as may be assigned from time to time

Person specification:
  • Have the requisite knowledge, skills and competencies to carry out   the role.
  • Be capable and competent of fulfilling the role to a high standard;
  • Be a part / full member of a recognised Accountancy Body
  • An appropriate honours degree in a related discipline.
  • Significant relevant experience in a similar role including extensive data reporting experience, ability to exploit data reporting capabilities, data analysis, budget monitoring and variance analysis
  • Excellent information technology skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and supportively with a wide variety of stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work to established deadlines and develop prioritisation.
  • Good planning, communication, time management and interpersonal skills.
  • A pro-active and problem-solving approach with the flexibility to manage multiple tasks and deadlines and develop prioritisation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The post also requires that the successful candidate has the ability to deal with highly confidential information in a very discreet manner.
