Job Title: Senior Additive Manufacturing Researcher

IMR (Irish Manufacturing Research) seeking a Senior Researcher to play a leading role in building and developing the organisation’s capability and research capacity to meet the growing needs of the centre and its industrial research partners in the area of Additive Manufacturing / 3D printing.

The successful candidate must have demonstrated significant experience in applying advanced manufacturing solutions for Industrial applications. The ideal candidate should also have wide experience applying novel manufacturing techniques within industrial or research environments either as a displacement process to traditional techniques or as a complementary process.

He/she will have the ability to apply technical knowledge to new environments and communicate this clearly to a diverse network with which he/she may not have been previously familiar.

Purpose of the Job:

The objective of the Centre, which is funded by Enterprise Ireland and the IDA Ireland, is to undertake industry-focused applied research for the benefit of, and with direct relevance to, the Irish manufacturing industry.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Management of multiple stakeholder requirements. 
  • Delivery of project objectives. 
  • Lead design of novel injection moulding tools.
  • Liaising with industry to drive adoption of novel manufacturing techniques. 
  • Develop and manage project reports and coordinate stakeholder involvement.
  • Prepare and present project updates and output for dissemination.
  • Where necessary assist the team on new technology decisions.
  • Work closely with Academic, Government and Industry partners.
  • Promote and support safe work practices across the IMR lab environment.

Desired Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • 5-10 years’ experience in delivering technical projects in the area of precision manufacturing.
  • Intimate knowledge of injection moulding and tool design.
  • Intimate knowledge of the injection moulding industry and applications.
  • General understanding of additive manufacturing techniques.
  • Familiarity with the process of validating injection moulding tools.
  • Good understanding of the material science of tool steels.
  • Ability to design novel moulding inserts using CAD/CAE and associated simulation tools.
  • Expert knowledge of advanced manufacturing processes.
  • Strong experience in DOE and associated statistical methodology as the basis for process characterisation.
  • Proven track record of delivering and disseminating high value process improvement projects.
  • BSc/BEng. in relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Valid EU work permit.

Desirable:

  • MSc in relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Demonstrable expertise in Project Management.

Salary & Benefits

This position will command a package consisting of basic salary (depending on experience), employer pension contribution and 5 weeks holidays.
