Job Title: Senior Process Development Researcher

IMR (Irish Manufacturing Research) is seeking a Senior Researcher to play a leading role in building and developing the organisation’s capability and research capacity to meet the growing needs of the centre and its industrial research partners in the area of Additive Manufacturing / 3D printing.

The successful candidate must have demonstrated significant experience in applying advanced manufacturing solutions for Industrial applications. The ideal candidate should also have wide experience developing novel manufacturing techniques within industrial or research environments.

He/she will have the ability to apply technical knowledge to new environments and communicate this clearly to a diverse network with which he/she may not have been previously familiar.

Purpose of the Job:

The objective of the Centre, which is funded by Enterprise Ireland and the IDA Ireland, is to undertake industry-focused applied research for the benefit of, and with direct relevance to, the Irish manufacturing industry. The objective of the role is to work with IMR’s internal and external partners to develop and validate a novel additive manufacturing solution for a new proprietary material source.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Play a lead role in the development of a novel additive manufacturing solution using Laser fusion technology.
  • Work closely with existing OEM’s to find and leverage applicable laser based technological solutions. 
  • Integrate, test and validate solution against defined metrics.
  • Execute on the delivery of project objectives as defined by the project manager.
  • Support go/no-go decisions against stage-gate design decisions.
  • Develop and manage project reports and stakeholder involvement.
  • Prepare and present project updates and output for dissemination.
  • Where necessary assist the team on new technology decisions.
  • Work closely with Academic, Government and Industry partners.
  • Promote and support safe work practices across the IMR lab environment.

Desired Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • 3+ years’ experience working on laser-based applications.
  • Strong experience with the development of laser parameters.
  • Good understating of Metal material science.
  • Demonstrated experience of equipment design, development and integration.
  • Strong ability to coordinate project deliverables and execute.
  • Expert knowledge of advanced manufacturing processes.
  • Proven track record of delivering and disseminating high value process improvement projects.
  • BSc/MSc. in relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
  • EU work permit.

 

Desirable:

  • PhD in relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Robotic programming experience a bonus
  • Equipment design and development a bonus.

Salary & Benefits

This position will command a package consisting of basic salary (depending on experience), employer pension contribution and 5 weeks holidays.
