IMR (Irish Manufacturing Research) are seeking an Additive Manufacturing Lab Technician to play a support role in building and developing the organisation’s capability and research capacity to meet the growing needs of the centre and its industrial research partners in the area of Additive Manufacturing / 3D printing.

The ideal candidate should have wide experience in operating manufacturing equipment from preparation to finishing parts.

He/she will have the ability to apply technical knowledge to new environments and communicate this clearly to a diverse network with which he/she may not have been previously familiar. 

The successful candidate will be a highly-motivated self-starter, requiring little direction, able to thrive in a start-up environment and enjoy the challenge of building a business from scratch. He/She should also be highly customer-orientated, adaptable and efficient, and not afraid to take a hands-on approach.  He/she will be results-orientated and go the extra mile to get the job done.

Purpose of the Job:

The objective of the Centre, which is funded by Enterprise Ireland and the IDA Ireland, is to undertake industry-focused applied research for the benefit of, and with direct relevance to, the Irish manufacturing industry.

Specific responsibilities

  • Follow standard operating procedures through the process of preparation, programming and operation of diverse equipment, such as Additive Manufacturing equipment, test equipment and other ancillary equipment relevant to the manufacturing process.
  • Utilise CAD software to validate models and assemblies.
  • Perform cleaning, finishing or assembly operations to ensure highest quality in parts delivered.
  • Utilise work instructions to comply with all Health and Safety regulations including working with Lean practices and support for 5S implementation.
  • Champion all Health and Safety protocols with the lab environment.
  • Drive day-to-day production and process improvements within the lab.
  • Perform planned and un-planned maintenance of lab machines and equipment.
  • Develop appropriate troubleshooting routines to resolve machine issues.
  • With OEM providers support necessary in-house calibration procedures.
  • Perform tasks in support of defined research projects, supporting engineers in decision making process.
  • When required interact directly with customers through demonstrations as well as presentations of project reports.
  • Support centre activities related to events and other technology expansion areas.

 

Desired Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Technical qualification in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Mechatronics engineering or equivalent.
  • 3+ years’ experience operating in a highly regulated production or lab environment.
  • Excellent understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Proven track record of problem solving / machine issue resolution within production or lab environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of CAD software tools.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Valid EU work permit

Desirable:

  • Additive Manufacturing or 3D printing experience.
  • Experience working in an R&D/prototyping environment.

Salary & Benefits

This position will command a package consisting of basic salary (depending on experience), employer pension contribution and 5 weeks holidays.
